Meet Our Team


Miles Nye-Chart

Practice Owner (BSc BVMS (Hons))

Miles has been the practice owner of Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital since February 1991 and continues to work fulltime in the practice. He completed his veterinary studies at Murdoch University, graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery with honours in 1990. He studied as a mature age student after working for some years as a stock inspector in the Northern Territory, where he was involved in eradicating Tuberculosis and Brucellosis in buffalo and cattle. Miles initially studied at Queensland Agricultural College in Gatton and has a certificate in Animal Husbandry and an Associate Diploma in Stock and Meat Inspection.

Miles moved to Mt Barker on completing his veterinary degree and has been here ever since. His areas of special interest include equine dentistry, equine reproduction and beef production. During his down time Miles' personal interests include fishing, camp drafting and going camping.

Deborah Nye-Chart

(Bachelor Health Science- Naturopathy, Diploma of Remedial massage and Associate Diploma in Electronic Engineering)

Deb, with her husband Miles, has been an owner of the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital since 1991. She also runs her own business in Mt Barker, Healing Naturally WA, from which she works as a herbalist, naturopath, remedial massage therapist and produces specialty herbal teas. Deb also prescribes and supplies herbal and nutritional animal remedies.

Deb's roles within the veterinary hospital include naturopathic consults and herbal remedies to complement traditional veterinary medicines. She is also the IT guru and bookkeeper. Deb’s personal interests include campdrafting, gardening, reading and natural medicine.

Tara Mills

(BVetBiol/BVSc (Hons))

Tara joined Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in August 2013 after completing a stint in the north west of WA providing dental care for horses from Carnarvon, Onslow and all station horses in between. She is a local girl, having grown up in Albany, before having moved east to study at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Here she graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Veterinary Science with first class honours after completing a thesis on wound healing in horses. She then worked in dairy/ mixed practice in southern New South Wales for a few years prior to relocating back to WA.  

In Mt Barker Tara is enjoying being involved in mixed practice and is very enthusiastic about providing quality dental care to the horses of the Great Southern. When at home she enjoys dabbling with her horse Ceaser and getting away camping with her partner, Cliff and 2 dogs Reggie and Chammy.


Rebecca Lambert

Veterinarian (BSc BVMs (Hons))

Rebecca joined Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in 2010 after graduating from Murdoch University in 2009 with Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (Hons). Rebecca was born and raised in the outskirts of Sydney and studied Animal Science before making the move to Perth. She grew up with horses, dogs and cats and always wanted to be a mixed animal practice vet, living in a rural community. Rebecca loves the diversity of working in a mixed practice and the new challenges that each day brings.

In 2014 Rebecca married a farmer and moved to Wagin. She now works in Mt Barker in a part time capacity and operates a mobile veterinary service, under the clinic umbrella, in Wagin and surrounds. When not 'wearing her vet hat' Rebecca is busy working on the farm, spending time with her dog Kaida, family and friends, gardening, working out, and home-making.   

Lesley Fantin


Lesley has been working at Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital on a part time basis since July 2013. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters in Wildlife Nutrition, whereby she got the opportunity to work with red pandas at the Toronto Zoo. She obtained her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from the Univerisity of Murdoch in 2003. Her colourful career spanning 11 years has seen her practice in Canada, Tasmania, Queensland and throughout the Great Southern, including Albany and Manjimup.

She resides on a mixed sheep / cattle / cropping family run farm just west of Kendenup with her husband, young daughter and in-laws.

Melanie Greeney

Veterinary Practice Manager (Veterinary Nurse Technician (2013)Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing (2008)

Melanie is our Senior Veterinary Nurse and Practice Manager at Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital. Melanie began working with us while still at high school, joining us full time in 2005. Melanie completed her Certificate IV in veterinary nursing in 2008 and has since completed her veterinary nurse technician course in 2013.
Melanie grew up on a small pony stud in Kendenup and attended both primary and high school in Mt Barker. She is a keen soccer player, loves horse riding and spending time with her animals which include her dogs Angel and Yogi, her cats Max and Scarlett, and horses Vision, Snack and Lesty.


Danny Thies

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS)

Danny is a locum veterinarian who has regularly worked for Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital for the last 10 years. Danny graduated from Murdoch University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. He has worked in numerous practices in the Great Southern, the Pilbara and Perth and owned and ran his own clinic for numerous years. He has extensive experience in small and large animal medicine and surgery. 

Danny now lives in Denmark and enjoys canoeing, camping, bushwalking, traveling, working on his never ending house renovations and chasing his 4 children around.

Tori Bowman

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Tori began working at the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in late 2011 while completing Year 12. She graduated with a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through Polytechnic West in 2013.

Tori grew up on her family farm in Tambellup. She has a little Jack Russell x Chihauhau Bella, two cats Rose and Sadie, and two horse Molly and Tinkerbell. Outside of work Tori enjoys horse riding, playing with her animals and catching up with friends.

Emily Hughes

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Emily joined the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital team in May 2013 after finishing high school. She has since completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and is loving every minute of it.

Emily owns just about every kind of animal with her 3 dogs, 2 horses, 3 cats, 3 rabbits, hermit crabs, cattle, sheep and chickens on her family property in Narrikup. She enjoys horse riding, travelling, camping and spending time with her pets.

Sarah Brown


Sarah worked her gap year between school and university as a veterinary nurse in 2011 at Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital. After moving to Perth for some time she then relocated back to Mt Barker. She has once again joined the veterinary hospital team as our go to person, who fills the gaps when they arise, from reception and veterinary nursing, to gardening, admininistration and marketing.

Sarah has a keen interest in sewing and Dachshunds!
