Miles Nye-Chart

Practice Owner (BSc BVMS (Hons))

Miles has been the practice owner of Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital since February 1991 and continues to work fulltime in the practice. He completed his veterinary studies at Murdoch University, graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery with honours in 1990. He studied as a mature age student after working for some years as a stock inspector in the Northern Territory, where he was involved in eradicating Tuberculosis and Brucellosis in buffalo and cattle. Miles initially studied at Queensland Agricultural College in Gatton and has a certificate in Animal Husbandry and an Associate Diploma in Stock and Meat Inspection.

Miles moved to Mt Barker on completing his veterinary degree and has been here ever since. His areas of special interest include equine dentistry, equine reproduction and beef production. During his down time Miles' personal interests include fishing, camp drafting and going camping.


Deborah Nye-Chart

(Bachelor Health Science- Naturopathy, Diploma of Remedial massage and Associate Diploma in Electronic Engineering)

Deb, with her husband Miles, has been an owner of the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital since 1991. She also runs her own business in Mt Barker, Healing Naturally WA, from which she works as a herbalist, naturopath, remedial massage therapist and produces specialty herbal teas. Deb also prescribes and supplies herbal and nutritional animal remedies.

Deb's roles within the veterinary hospital include naturopathic consults and herbal remedies to complement traditional veterinary medicines. She is also the IT guru and bookkeeper. Deb’s personal interests include campdrafting, gardening, reading and natural medicine.


Tara Mills

Veterinarian (BVetBiol/BVSc (Hons))

Tara joined Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in August 2013 after completing a stint in the north west of WA providing dental care for horses from Carnarvon, Onslow and all station horses in between. She is a local girl, having grown up in Albany, before having moved east to study at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Here she graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Veterinary Science with first class honours after completing a thesis on wound healing in horses. She then worked in dairy/ mixed practice in southern New South Wales for a few years prior to relocating back to WA.  

In Mt Barker Tara is enjoying being involved in mixed practice and is very enthusiastic about providing quality dental care to the horses of the Great Southern. When at home she enjoys dabbling with her horse Ceaser and getting away camping with her partner, Cliff, and 2 dogs Reggie and Chammy. Tara joins the team again on a part time basis while the remainder of her time is spent with her daughter Lucy who was born in April 2019.

 


Bridie Luers

Veterinarian (BSc BVMs )

Bridie made the move to Mt Barker with her Australian Cattle Dog 'Red' to join our team in January 2019. Bridie graduated from Murdoch University with her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in November 2018. Bridie enjoys large animal work including cattle and horses. Her personal interests include horse riding and netball.


Lesley Fantin

Veterinarian (BSc MSc BVMS)

Lesley has been working at Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital on a part time basis since July 2013. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters in Wildlife Nutrition, whereby she got the opportunity to work with red pandas at the Toronto Zoo. She obtained her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from the Univerisity of Murdoch in 2003. Her colourful career spanning 16 years has seen her practice in Canada, Tasmania, Queensland and throughout the Great Southern, including Albany and Manjimup.

She resides on a mixed sheep / cattle / cropping family run farm just west of Kendenup with her husband, young daughter and in-laws.


Bronwyn King

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS)

Bronwyn started working with us at the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in 2017. In 2004 Bronwyn completed her certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and worked as a Veterinary Nurse for 4 years. She then went onto study to become a Veterinarian and graduated from Murdoch University in 2013. Since then she has worked around Australia whilst raising her young family. She has done some continuing education focusing on small animal emergency and critical care as well as small animal ultrasound. Her special interests within the veterinary profession are emergency and critical care, clinical pathology and internal medicine. 

She lives with her husband and 2 daughters on a small farm where they enjoy the simple life and good local produce. 


Kelly Fallon

Veterinarian (BSc BVMS)

We first met Kelly when she started locuming here with us in 2015. She then became permanant part time in April 2019. Kelly graduated from Murdoch University with her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 2004. Kelly was a former alpaca breeder and at one point owned over 300 alpacas. For many years she performed embryo transfers in alpacas which allowed her to travel around Australia to different alpaca studs. Kelly enjoys the variety of mixed practice including everything from large animals to tiny pocket pets. 

Her personal interests include lifting weights, crochet and exploring nature with her 2 kids. Kelly owns a range of animals including seahorses, guinea pigs, budgies and a rescue cat named 'Possum' that she adopted from our clinic. 


Melanie Greeney

Veterinary Nurse (Veterinary Nurse Technician (2013)Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing (2008) )

Melanie began working with us while still at high school, joining us full time in 2005. Melanie completed her Certificate IV in veterinary nursing in 2008 and has since completed her veterinary nurse technician course in 2013.
 
Melanie grew up on a small pony stud in Kendenup and attended both primary and high school in Mt Barker. She is a keen soccer player, loves horse riding and spending time with her animals which include her dogs Angel and Yogi, her cats Max and Scarlett, and horses Vision and Lesty.

 


Emily Hughes

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Emily joined the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital team in May 2013 after finishing high school at Mt Barker. She has since completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through Polytechnic West and is loving every minute of nursing. She works full time in the clinic and is always looking to futher her education within the veterinary industry. She is currently studying an advanced small animal nursing course.

Emily lives with her Border Collie named Milo, 2 horses Pebbles and Dixie, cats Chevy, Beans and Ellie, and cattle, sheep and chickens on her hobby farm in Narrikup. She enjoys travelling, camping and spending time with her many animals.


Tia Owen

Veterinary Nurse

Tia started working full time at the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in 2017. She has been busy studying her Certifcate IV in Veterinary Nursing through South Metro Tafe and achieved her Certificate in October 2019. Tia thoroughly enjoys Veterinary Nursing and it shows in the way she cares for the patients.  

Tia owns a Mastiff x named Tess and a DSH cat called Tilly. Tia enjoys playing social darts and spending time with her human friends and fur friends. 

 


Katelyn Hilder

Veterinary Nurse

Katelyn started working at the Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital in 2019. Katelyn grew up in Narrogin on her family farm and moved to Perth to complete her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2013 through Polytechnic West Tafe. Katelyn has worked in a range of clinics from Vetwest in Perth to Narrogin Veterinary Hospital. She most enjoys caring for the hospital patients and has a special interest in animal medicine. 

Her personal interests include taking her dogs Tilly (Kelpie x) and Myla (Border Collie) to the beach, playing netball and spending time with her friends and family. 


Diane Mills

Trainee Nurse

Diane joined our team initially as a kennel hand in 2016. Since then she has been busy working with us part time and also studying for her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Diane is in the final stages of her studies and is aiming to achieve her certificate by the end of 2019. Diane loves working with animals and is enjoying learning new skills that Veterinary Nursing has to offer. 

In her spare time Diane enjoys carriage driving with her pony Herculeez and potting around with her 2 dogs Pat and Fred and cat Aussie who she adopted through our kitten re-homing program when he was a year old.
